October 2, 2020

Dear parents, guardians, and students of NLHSMMC,

Student attendance is cumulative throughout the entire year and we all know that attending school daily leads to academic success. All parents should make school attendance a priority. Parents should also check PowerSchool to ensure their student is arriving to school on time and attending classes on time. Please read and seriously consider the information below as a reminder of the importance of attending school daily:

  1. The only excused absences are those due to illness, death, in the family, doctor/dentist appointments, religious obligations or administrative decisions in the best interest of the student.
  2. Four unexcused absences in a month is considered truancy.
  3. Missing 10% of the total number of days your student is enrolled for any reason is considered Chronic Absence.
  4. Missing two days of school a month for any reason will lead to Chronic Absence. Absences accumulate, and parents are often surprised by the total absences for the school year.
  5. Missing school at the high school level makes it especially difficult to keep up with class assignments.
  6. Attendance is also mandatory on Wednesdays. For Wednesday attendance, you will be marked present if you complete 50% or more of the work posted by teachers for the day. All teachers will post on the students’ daily classes in TEAMS a “Do Now” or short activity.  If students complete at least 50% of it, the student will be marked present for Wednesdays.

Please make every effort to attend school daily whether it is virtual or in person.  Remember attending daily leads to academic success.  Students cannot earn credit if they are not in school.

New London High School teachers miss students when they are not here. All students should attend daily and “Work Hard, Be Nice, and Get Better!”
