September 24, 2020

Dear Parents and Members of the School Community:

We have been recently notified that one of our high school students has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). This student has been at home, in quarantine since September 16th. High school classes will continue as normal for students in Cohort B and in Distance Learning tomorrow, September 25th.

NLPS continues to work closely in partnership with our medical advisor and the health experts at Ledge Light Health District (LLHD). LLHD staff are now in the process of working through a contact tracing investigation. If they find that your child may have had ongoing close contact with this student, they will contact you directly to ask you to also keep your child home to quarantine as well. This investigation should be able to be concluded within 24 hours.

COVID-19 is thought to be spread via person-to-person contact through contaminated air droplets from coughing and sneezing by an infected person. As with controlling the spread of other viruses, we urge everyone to take the following preventive measures:

  • Wash your hands regularly, especially after using the restroom and before preparing or consuming food. Using soap and hot water, wash for about 20 seconds. Be sure to also wash your fingertips.
  • Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue away. If you do not have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your arm.
  • As much as you can, avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose. The symptoms of coronavirus include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, and loss of smell or taste. Additional symptoms include runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, congestion, muscle, or body aches.

Individuals who need medical care should call their medical provider to report their illness prior to seeking care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital. Parents of students or staff who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 need to contact their primary care provider.
